On Thursday we took advantage of the record setting fall weather and took our bikes out to the farthest stop on the S-tog, the commuter train. Bikes ride free and travel nicely in their train bike racks. It was a good 5 hour bike ride along the coast south of Copenhagen, from a town called Køge, through small villages with half-timbered, thatched roof houses, the oldest of which was from 1611 and is now a museum but the others were just somebody's house. I neglected to stop and take a picture. We came upon a castle, the earliest part which was built in 1396. The gardens were lovely, with giant oak trees many hundreds of years old. Biking a little further, we came upon a medieval church, started in 1200. The paintings on the ceilings were common in the 1300's. Each church has a model ship hanging in it, to protect and remember those at sea. We took our lunch in a small town square, eating our usual cheese sandwiches and having a well-earned beer. We headed west and found another regional bike trail, one of the hundreds of well-marked national and regional routes. Rode past farms with the familiar fall smell of spread manure- Meredith will remember that well from her time out in the countryside at højskole. Saw a mountain of harvested sugar beets and savored the sunshine and warmth. The weather continures so I am going to head off on my bike for a trip around town. Tonight, Nhat is making pizza for our Danish friends. The pizza tradition continues.

Ufta! What a treat to see a bit of Greece again through your eyes! So glad you were found this "honeymoon" adventure. I didn't remember that you had signed up in London for a nursing program, so I learned something new too. I don't think Tom needs any encouragement to see Greece, but this should do it, if he does. Og det er godt at laese at du er komm godt hjemme, --Mary
